Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson files for divorce

USATODAY Sports) - Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson announced through the team Wednesday that he is filing for divorce from his wife of two years.

Wilson married his wife Ashton in April 2012, shortly before the Seahawks selected him in the third round of the draft.

"Clearly, decisions like these don't come easy," Wilson said in a statement. "Ashton and I respectfully ask for prayers, understanding and privacy during this difficult time. Moving forward, I will have no further comment on this personal matter."

That is a departure for the quarterback who spoke often about his wife and marriage in his first two years in the NFL, as the couple frequently did charity work together in the Seattle area, much it documented by Wilson on his social media accounts.

Wilson last posted a picture that included his wife 13 weeks ago.

He has had a busy offseason, including a visit to Texas Rangers' spring training and a recent workout session in California with Seahawks teammates.
