Edmonton, AB (Sports Network) - The Edmonton Oilers have agreed to terms on a
new contract with general manager Steve Tambellini.
Edmonton has failed to reach the playoffs in Tambellini's four seasons with
the team, which has resulted in high draft picks. The Oilers took Taylor Hall
with the first pick in 2010 and selected Ryan Nugent-Hopkins first overall in
2011.
After winning the 2012 Draft Lottery, the Oilers will have the chance to
select first overall for the third consecutive year.
"Three years ago we asked Steve to begin a rebuild which we all know hasn't
been easy," president of hockey operations Kevin Lowe said. "However, Oilers
fans can take some consolation in the fact that Steve and his staff have
acquired some amazing talent which will most definitely be the cornerstone to
future sustained success for the Edmonton Oilers."
Tambellini joined the Oilers in 2008 after spending the previous 17 years with
the Vancouver Canucks. He served as the Canucks' vice president and assistant
GM for the final three seasons.
