(Sports Network) - The Boston Bruins try to bounce back from a rare loss on Friday when they kick off a five-game road trip against the Buffalo Sabres at the First Niagara Center.

Boston rallied from a three-goal deficit on Tuesday against the New York Rangers and forced overtime by scoring twice in the final 1:31. However, the Bruins saw their three-game win streak come to an end with a 4-3 shootout loss.

Nathan Horton and Brad Marchand each scored with the goalie pulled late in the third, while David Krejci added the other tally. Milan Lucic and Dennis Seidenberg contributed two assists apiece to Boston's late rally. Tuukka Rask registered 26 saves for the Bruins.

"We kind of dug ourselves a hole of our own doing, but at the same time you have to appreciate that we never gave up," Bruins head coach Claude Julien said.

Now, the Bruins hit the road where they have won four in a row and are 4-0-1 on season. One of those road wins came in Buffalo on Sunday. However, the Bruins have lost four of their last six as the visitor in this series.

This trip also includes stops in Winnipeg, Tampa Bay, Florida and Long Island.

"This is a big trip for us, and we're looking forward to it," Seidenberg said. "We play simple hockey on the road, strong, defensive hockey. There's no reason we shouldn't keep that going. You always want to be a perfectionist, right? There's always room for improvement."

Buffalo, meanwhile, enters Friday's tilt on the heels of dropping five of seven after a 2-0 shutout loss at the hands of the Ottawa Senators on Tuesday.

Ryan Miller stopped 29-of-31 shots in Buffalo's second consecutive setback.

"We can't put ourselves in that position," Buffalo coach Lindy Ruff said of his team giving up eight power plays. "It's too much ice time."

Thomas Vanek continues to lead the NHL with 11 goals and 23 points. Although, he managed just one shot on goal Sunday against the Bruins, Vanek lit them up back on Jan. 31, matching a career-high with five points, while recording a hat trick against Rask. His 28 goals and 54 points in 46 meetings with Boston are his highest totals against any opponent.

Speaking of Rask, he 0-2-1 with a 3.62 goals against average against Buffalo and has been pulled twice in his last four starts against the Sabres.

Boston has won three of the last four and five of the last eight overall meetings.
