Late rally lifts Lightning over Flyers

TAMPA -- The Tampa Bay Lightning stunned the Philadelphia Flyers with three third-period goals to rally for a 3-2 victory on Wednesday night.

Alex Killorn and Ryan Callahan scored 12 seconds apart late in the third period to lift Tampa Bay to its fifth victory in the past six games. Andrei Vasilevskiy finished with 29 saves to improve to 6-1-1 this season.

Ivan Provorov had a goal and two points Dale Weise scored his second goal in as many nights for the Flyers and goaltender Steve Mason finished with 25 saves while starting back-to-back nights.

Tampa Bay rallied for the victory despite misfiring on three power play chances in the third period.

Killorn put a backhand past Mason on a rebound of a Slater Koekkoek shot that caromed off the end boards at 13:28 of the period.

On the next shift Tyler Johnson bounced the puck around the left circle in the Philadelphia zone before Brayden Point collected it and quickly found Callahan at the right circle for a tap in at 13:40.

Nikita Kucherov capped the rally with his 10th goal of the season with 1:15 left.

The Lightning dominated the first period helped out in part by three power-play opportunities.

The Flyers were held to two shots on goal in the opening 20 minutes were held without a shot for a stretch of 8:03 at one point. They did not have a shot on goal for the final 6:53 of the period though the one shot on goal was breakaway chance from Weise.

It wasn't until the final seconds of the period that the Lightning broke through on the third power play chance as right after Mason stopped Ondrej Palat on a rebound chance Hedman stepped in to a slap shot from the right point four his fourth goal of the season with three seconds left in the period.

Tampa Bay outshot the Flyers 12-2 in the period.

The roles were reversed in the second period and the score changed as well.

The Flyers fired 22 shots on goal in the middle period and ended up coming out with a 2-1 lead.

Weise put Philadelphia on the board at 6:06 when he came down the right wing side and fired a shot that hit Vasilevskiy's glove and landed in the net. The goal ended a shutout streak for Vasilevskiy at 178 minutes 2 seconds and was his first goal allowed in more than eight periods.

It was Weise's first goal of the season and first as a Flyer.

Provorov gave Philadelphia the lead with his first career NHL goal as he came down the left circle unchecked to take a pass from Matt Read and fire a wrist shot past Vasilevskiy with 54.7 seconds remaining.

NOTES: Flyers C Sean Couturier will miss 4-6 weeks with an undisclosed lower-body injury the team announced. He was injured in the second period on Tuesday at Florida when he collided with Panthers RW Vincent Trocheck. Couturier returned to Philadelphia to be examined by team doctors. ... Lightning C Brian Boyle missed the game with an undisclosed upper-body injury. He also missed the previous meeting with Philadelphia on Saturday though he played Monday at Nashville. ... Tampa Bay D Anton Stralman missed his sixth consecutive game with an upper-body injury suffered Nov. 12 against San Jose. ... Philadelphia G Steve Mason started on consecutive nights for the first time this season. ... The Lightning recalled RW Erik Condra from Syracuse of the American Hockey League. ... With Couturier out the Flyers recalled F Scott Laughton from Lehigh Valley of the AHL. ... Lightning RW J.T. Brown missed the game with an undisclosed upper-body injury though he did take part in the team's morning skate. ... Flyers D Michael Del Zotto was a healthy scratch for the second consecutive game. Philadelphia also scratched D Nick Schultz.
