Tampa Bay Buccaneers running back Doug Martin
What Doug Martin is doing is incredible. It's never been seen before. Not here, at least.
The Bucs rookie runner is galloping into Tampa Bay fan's hearts. He's on pace to do some remarkable things. He's shades of Warrick Dunn and Cadillac Williams rolled into one - only better.
Through the first eight games of his career, Doug Don't-Call-Me-Muscle-Hamster Martin has rushed for 794 yards on 154 carries. That's a lot of work for a kid that's only halfway through one NFL season but he's flourishing in his role as the Bucs' workhorse.
Compare him to the two most successful running backs in Bucs recent history, and you may start asking Greg Schiano and company to give him the ball MORE.
Eight games into his career he has more rushing yards than Cadillac (632), more than Warrick (485) and more rushing touchdowns than both of them COMBINED. His seven rushing scores outpace the other guys by one touchdown.
But that's not all.
He can catch the ball, too! He has 20 receptions for 245 yards and a score as well. Cadillac didn't do much receiving in the start of his career... just 10 grabs for 49 yards. Dunn was better out of the back field with 235 yards and a pair of scores on 19 catches.
The historic numbers are impressive for Doug. He's on pace to gain over 2,000 yards from scrimmage - AS A ROOKIE! The only stat that Cadillac and Warrick have on Dougie, the team records. Williams (6-2) and Dunn (5-3) had a little more team success to start.
But, if Doug keeps running like THIS, the Bucs' 4-4 record may not stay that way for long.
Check out the numbers head-to-head:
DOUG MARTIN'S first 8 games in the NFL (2012):
Rushing: 154 carries, 794 yards, 5.15 yards per carry, 7 TD.
Receiving: 20 catches, 245 yards, 1 TD
CADILLAC WILLIAMS' first 8 games in the NFL (2005):
Rushing: 152 carries, 632 yards, 4.15 yards per carry, 3 TD.
Receiving: 10 catches, 49 yards, 0 TD
WARRICK DUNN'S first 8 games in the NFL (1997):

At the end of their rookie seasons, Cadillac and Dunn pretty much stayed on the pace they set in those first eight weeks. Caddy ended with 1,258 total yards. Dunn, 1,440. Martin is on pace for 2,078.
Compare Doug to Trent Richardson of the Cleveland Browns, who was the No. 3 pick in the NFL draft this past year. Doug went to the Bucs at No. 31 overall
TRENT RICHARDSON'S first 8 games in the NFL (2012):
Rushing: 152 carries, 575 yards, 3.8 yards per carry, 5 TDs.
Not only is he productive, he's a bargain! Now he just needs a new nickname. Any ideas?
