New York, NY (Sports Network) - Tampa Bay Lightning center Steven Stamkos, Washington Capitals forward Alex Ovechkin and Los Angeles Kings goaltender Jonathan Quick have been named the NHL's "Three Stars" for the week ending January 1.
Stamkos earned First Star honors after scoring six goals during the week. He enters Monday's action with an NHL-best 26 goals.
Ovechkin received Second Star honors after extending his point streak to six games with five goals and three assists last week. He capped off the week with consecutive two-goal performances in wins over Buffalo and Columbus.
Quick, the Third Star, won all three of his starts last week, including a 38- save shutout in Chicago against the Blackhawks on Wednesday. It was Quick's league-leading fifth shutout of the season.
