Washington, D.C. (Sports Network) - D.C. United acquired midfielder Danny Cruz
from the Houston Dynamo on Friday in exchange for a partial allocation.
Cruz, 22, was selected in the third round of the 2009 MLS SuperDraft, and made
51 appearances over three seasons for the Dynamo. He made 20 appearances, 13
starts, last season and had two goals and three assists.
He also started all four of Houston's playoff games last season, when it lost,
1-0, to the Los Angeles Galaxy in the MLS Cup final.
"We're pleased to have concluded a deal to acquire Danny from Houston," United
general manager Dave Kasper said. "He is a tenacious player who brings a lot
of energy and bite to the midfield and we are thrilled to have him at United.
"He has enormous upside and we look forward to his contributions for years to
come."
Cruz represented the U.S. at the Under-17 and Under-20 World Cups, but has not
made an appearance at the senior level.
