Chicago, IL (Sports Network) - United States Women's National Team head coach
Pia Sundhage named her 18-player roster for the 2012 Summer Olympics in London
on Sunday, and it will be led by captain Christie Rampone, who is making her
record fourth appearance at the Olympics.
Midfielders Shannon Boxx and Heather O'Reilly and defender Heather Mitts will
be playing in their third Olympic competition while Sundhage will be bringing
11 players total from the 2008 team that won the gold medal in Beijing, China
four years ago.
The Americans have reached the gold medal game in every Olympic competition
for women's soccer since 1996, winning gold in the inaugural event as well as
the past two tournaments and finishing second in 2000.
The U.S. opens the competition in Group G against France before facing
Colombia and Korea DPR.
