New York, NY (Sports Network) - Montreal Impact defender Nelson Rivas has been
suspended two additional matches by MLS for headbutting Philadelphia Union
forward Antoine Hoppenot last weekend.
Rivas was shown a red card for violent conduct, which results in an automatic
one-game suspension, and the MLS Disciplinary Committee added two more matches
and an undisclosed fine to his punishment.
He will start serving his suspension Sunday against the New England Revolution
and also miss games against the San Jose Earthquakes and D.C. United.
San Jose forward Chris Wondolowski was also fined an undisclosed amount for
public criticism of the officials after the Earthquakes game against Vancouver
Whitecaps FC in late July.
