Louisville, KY - Louisville Slugger is making pink bats for players to use during games on Mother's Day. It's hoped the pink sluggers will promote breast cancer and research.

Players expected to use the bats include Derek Jeter, David Ortiz, Jim Thome, Ken Griffey Junior and Jim Edmonds. Some of the Texas Rangers are even having their mother's names branded on their bats to honor them.

It is not an approved bat color, but Major League Baseball has given special permission to players who want to swing them on Mother's Day.

After the games, players will autograph their bats and the MLB will auction them off to raise money for breast cancer research. Each MLB team will also sign team logo Louisville slugger bats for the auction.
