WELLINGTON, Fla. (AP) — A polo player has died after an accident during a practice game in the run-up to the Stanford US Open.

Skeeter Johnston was flown to Delray Beach Medical Center this week to relieve swelling in his brain when his horse rolled over on him.

The accident left him unconscious on the field.

Johnston also sustained two broken legs, a broken pelvis, and dislocated hip and broken jaw, but it is not yet clear if he suffered injuries by his own horse or another on the field.

A representative at the Flying H Polo Club in Big Horn, Wyoming, where the polo player lived and practiced during the summer, says Johnston died last night.
