Gstaad, Switzerland (Sports Network) - Top seed Janko Tipsarevic
continued his winning ways Friday with an easy quarterfinal victory
at the $435,000 Swiss Open Gstaad.
The Serbian Tipsarevic, seeking a second title in two weeks, blew past Czech
qualifier Jan Hernych 6-2, 6-1 in 62 minutes on the clay courts at Credit
Agricole Swiss Arena.
Tipsarevic, fresh off his clay-court title in Stuttgart last week, will meet
France's Paul-Henri Mathieu in a semifinal on Saturday. Mathieu came from
behind to beat Latvian Ernests Gulbis 4-6, 6-1, 6-4 on Day 5.
The talented but oft-injured Mathieu titled here back in 2007.
Also on Friday, Brazil's Thomaz Bellucci ousted fifth-seeded Spaniard and
fellow lefthander Feliciano Lopez 6-3, 6-3 and promising Bulgarian Grigor
Dimitrov pasted Poland's Lukasz Kubot 6-3, 6-2. Lopez was a runner-up here in
2006.
The 2009 Gstaad champion Bellucci and Dimitrov will square off in Saturday's
other semi. The world No. 61 Dimitrov will appear in his third semifinal
since last month.
This week's champion will collect $79,000.
