Madrid, Spain (Sports Network) - Oft-injured Frenchman Gael Monfils has
pulled out of the Olympic tennis event, while Feliciano Lopez will replace his
injured fellow Spaniard Rafael Nadal in the 64-man field at the storied All
England Club.
The world No. 17 Monfils is nursing a right knee injury and was replaced in
the Olympic draw by fellow Frenchman Julien Benneteau.
The 25-year-old Monfils missed the recently-concluded French Open and
Wimbledon because of the knee issue.
The 30th-ranked Lopez steps in for the two-time Wimbledon champion Nadal, who
withdrew from the London Games on Thursday, citing physical problems.
The Olympic tennis tournament will be held from July 28-Aug. 5.
