Shenzhen, China (Sports Network) - Top seed Li Na overcame a sloppy service
game to beat eighth-seeded Serbian Bojana Jovanovski 6-3, 6-3 on Thursday and
advance to the semifinals at the inaugural Shenzhen Open.
The Chinese star had 10 double faults in her quarterfinal bout, but converted
five of her seven break points.
Next up for the former French Open champion Li will be sixth-seeded
compatriot Peng Shuai, who rallied for a 2-6, 7-5, 6-2 victory over German
Annika Beck.
Czech Klara Zakopalova, the fifth seed, and Romanian veteran Monica Niculescu
will meet in the other semifinal.
Zakopalova upended second-seeded Frenchwoman Marion Bartoli 6-3, 6-2, while
Niculescu ended the run for Chinese lucky-loser Zhou Yi-Miao with a 6-4, 6-2
triumph.
