Oeiras, Portugal (Sports Network) - Stanislas Wawrinka of Switzerland beat
David Ferrer of Spain in Sunday's final at the Portugal Open.
The second-seeded Wawrinka defeated Ferrer, the No. 1 seed, by a 6-1, 6-4
margin in just over one hour.
In their previous meeting, Ferrer took down Wawrinka in February's Buenos
Aires final. Despite Sunday's defeat, the Spaniard holds a 7-4 lifetime mark
The 16th-ranked Swiss star captured his fourth career title and first since
January 2011 in Chennai. Wawrinka holds a 4-7 mark in finals.
Ferrer fell to 20-18 all-time in finals, including 2-3 this year. In addition
to the Buenos Aires title, he beat Philipp Kohlschreiber for the Auckland
championship in January and lost to Rafael Nadal in Acapulco and Andy Murray
Wawrinka took home $96,000 with the victory.
