(USA TODAY) Rascal Flatts took the stage at Sunday's Academy of Country Music awards show to perform their hit Rewind.
But it seems someone hit the Start button at the wrong time, and fans noted the group seemed to be lip-syncing their way through it.
And in fact, they were.
In answer to the outcry, Rascal Flatts posted a note Monday night on Twitter and Facebook explaining that lead singer Gary LeVox lost his voice last week and instead of canceling the ACM gig, they "made a last minute decision to lip-sync it."
"We've never done it before, and obviously we're not very good at it!" said the group in its note. "We look forward to singing live again in the very near future."
USA TODAY's Brian Mansfield hinted at it in his show recap, writing: "Flatts sounded as perfect performing their new single as they've ever sounded on television. Maybe a little too perfect."
