Tampa, Florida-- Call it controlled chaos Thursday night at the Tampa Convention Center, where a mix of fashion, Bollywood royalty and media converged for the International Indian Film Academy Awards show: ROCKS.
Pop stars, actors so famous they only need one name, like Govinda, and local Indian celebrities, like DJ Ravi Drums, all walked the green carpet early in the evening, amid throngs of paparazzi, and media from as far away as Dubai.
"The turnout, the support- [I enjoy] all of it. But to do it in Tampa, where I grew up, is punk rock super star," the DJ told 10 News.
Even the man, many credit with helping bring IIFA to Tampa Bay, Dr. Kiran Patel, believes the night was just the beginning of many exciting things to come.
"I think the naysayers will be proven wrong," Dr. Patel said with a smile.
As the traditional Indian and Western styles were shot though lenses of mobile phones and cameras, inside the show, models and more celebs strutted the catwalk.
Many of the fashions, were made of fabrics in a small Indian village, thanks to an organization to help empower women and children so they too can one day, shine as bright as the stars.
