Charlize Theron steps in it with media coverage rape analogy
(USA Today) It's Lesson #1 in celebrity media strategy: Don't compare anything to rape except actual rape. Charlize Theron didn't get the memo.
Trying to promote her A Million Ways to Die in the West comedy in Britain, she's instead fending off Twitter-fueled outrage over her remark comparing intrusive media coverage to rape.
In an interview with Sky News, she was asked if she ever Googles herself.
I don't do that, so that's my saving grace. When you start living in that world, and doing that, you start I guess feeling raped.
Kristen Stewart made a similar comment in 2010 — comparing paparazzi pursuit of her to being raped — and provoked similar ire. She ended up apologizing.
And just this week Gwyneth Paltrow stepped into a similar mess when she compared the many online attacks on her to being a soldier in a war zone. Which led to more online attacks.
