Tampa, FL-- Jesuit HS senior pitcher Lance McCullers has been named the Florida Gatorade Player of the Year.

McCullers helped lead the Jesuit Tigers to a 28-2 record this season, and a national number-1 ranking most of the year. The Tigers advanced to the state semifinals the past 3 seasons.

McCullers had a 13-0 record with a 0.18 ERA this season. He struck out 140 hitters, and consistently hit the high 90's on the radar gun.

McCullers is committed to play next season at the University of Florida, but he's expected to be a first round pick in Monday's Amateur Baseball Draft.

McCullers serves as a volunteer on behalf of Challenger Baseball, the Special Olympics, Metropolitan Ministries, the Head Start Program and as a Bakas Equestrian Center assistant for intellectually challenged children. In addition, he has also donated his time as part of a literacy-outreach program, as a motivational speaker for middle school children and as part of multiple food drives in association with Jesuit High School.
