Tampa, Florida - He was signed by the Buccaneers on May 2. Today Eric LeGrand is retiring.

"Making it to the NFL was my dream. But now I want to see my team as strong as possible at the start of training camp." says LeGrand. "I'm a Buc for life."

In 2010, LeGrand, then a defensive tackle for Rutgers, was left paralyzed after suffering a spinal cord injury while making a tackle on a kickoff against Army. It left him unable to move from the neck down.

He resumed his studies via video conferences in 2011 and last fall led the Scarlet Knights onto the field before a game.

The Bucs signed LeGrand earlier this year, although the contract has no monetary value. LeGrand had played under new Bucs coach Greg Schiano when they both were at Rutgers.

LeGrand was honored with the Jimmy V award for Perseverance at the 2012 ESPYs.

LeGrand will be placed on the Bucs reserve/retired list.
