TAMPA, Florida (AP) - The Republican National Convention will be in Tampa for only four days this month, but many of the changes in place for it, including better Internet service and new cellphone towers, will remain long after the delegates have left town.
Everything from stadium acoustics to data networks to city trees are being scrutinized, upgraded and polished. Three new cellphone towers are being erected.
Better acoustics at the Tampa Bay Times Forum and new trees along main roads are also among the lasting improvements.
Tampa Police are also spending part of its $50 million grant from Congress to provide security for the RNC on things like new bicycles and radios. That equipment will be used by Tampa officers or other regional law enforcement.
