Tarpon Springs, Florida -- The former manager of the Shepherd Center Thrift Shop, which supports the Tarpon Springs Shepherd Center charity, is accused of diverting nearly $5,000 from the store over a three-year period.
Cynthia Chapman was arrested on Aug. 26 on a charge of scheming to defraud. Tarpon Police say between January 2009 and January 2012, Chapman took deposits totaling a little over $4,500 that should have been deposited into the thrift shop's bank account for her own purposes.
Police say Chapman admitted that the money was never deposited and offered to make full restitution.
The Shepherd Center offers free food, clothing, legal advice and health services to the needy in Tarpon Springs.
Chapman is free on $5,000 bail.
