Davenport, Florida-- It was around 6 this morning when an unknown driver reportedly struck and killed 38 year-old Adrian Rivas as he walked home from work.

Vivas was walking on the east shoulder of the northbound lane of Highway 27 when the car struck him, and carried him a great distance. He reportedly died at the scene from his injuries.

Polk County deputies discovered Rivas' body adjacent to the northbound lane on Highway 27 and Ronald Reagan Parkway in Davenport.

The unidentified suspect was driving what investigators believe to be a commercial type vehicle, "possibly a Mack or Oshkosh type truck," they say. "The vehicle is missing amber flush mounted lights that are oval in shape. They are possibly from the front and/or right side of the vehicle."

Officials urge anyone who may have been traveling in the area at the time of the crash, or who may have any information about this investigation, to contact Traffic Homicide Sergeant Greg Goreck at 863-297-1100, or 863-298-6200.
