JACKSONVILLE, Florida -- A Florida man who trieddestroying evidence by plunging a samurai sword into the side of his computer pleaded guilty to a federal charge of receiving child pornography, officials say.
Kamil Mezalka, 21, faces a mandatory minimum of five years -- and up to 20 years -- in federal prison, a $250,000 fine, and a potential life term of a supervised release,according to a statement from the office of U.S. Attorney Robert E. O'Neill.The plea agreement also requires Mezalka to forfeit his computers and other digital media.
Mezalka was arrestedon May 8 at his Palm Coast home. When FBI agents arrived, they commanded Mezalka to leave his bedroom, but he refused.
Upon entering Mezalka's bedroom, they found that he used a samurai sword to damage both his desktop and laptop computers.
The hard drives to both computers were damaged, but forensic analysis was able to reveal hundreds of files depicting child sex abuse.
A sentencing date has not been set.
