Tampa, FL-- Police officers have arrested 34-year-old Anjenette Lopez after her baby passed away from a severe head injury Monday afternoon.
On September 20, sometime around 6 p.m., Lopez's one-year-old son, Jayden, reportedly received a severe skull fracture while in her care and custody.
During initial interviews, Lopez said she believed the baby fell in the bathtub, the affidavit explains. But it wasn't until seven days later that Lopez decided to take the baby to Florida Hospital.
Doctors there determined the baby had a severe brain injury and transported him to St. Joseph's Hospital, where he reportedly died on Monday, October 1 just after 3:30 p.m.
According to the Criminal Report Affidavit, the medical examiner ruled the baby's death a homicide as a result of blunt impact to the head.
Police say a friend who saw Jayden the day after the injury used the words "elephant man" to describe the swelling.
Lopez's failure to seek medical attention contributed to the suffering and death of baby Jayden, causing Police to arrest Lopez this afternoon, reports say.
The investigation continues.
