Valparaiso, IN (Sports Network) - Ryan Broekhoff scored 20 points and grabbed 13 rebounds to power Valparaiso to an easy 69-46 win over Northern Illinois.
Matt Kenney chipped in 16 points and Ben Boggs added 11 for the Crusaders (2-0), who opened their campaign on Friday with an 85-54 rout of Georgia Southern.
Aksel Bolin scored 10 for Northern Illinois (0-1), which shot a dismal 29.2 percent in its second straight loss to start the season. The Huskies dropped a 77-64 decision to Nebraska Omaha in their opener on Friday.
Valpo didn't mind the early Tuesday morning start, especially at home, and used a 13-3 run to build a 15-7 cushion. Broekhoff started the burst with a layup and a three and ended it with another shot from long range.
The Crusaders hit 13 threes overall and made only 12 shots from inside the arc, finishing at 52.1 percent for the contest. A 13-of-24 effort from 3-point territory mirrored their performance from Friday's opener.
Valpo built a 23-17 edge after 20 minutes and Boggs started the second half with consecutive threes. The lead never dipped below double-digits afterward and the Crusaders led by as many as 25.
