BATAVIA, NY (WGRZ)-A New York woman who wasfound guilty ofpunching an elderly Walmart greeter in the face last Christmas Eve was sentenced to five years in prison.

Jacquetta Simmons, 27,was taken into custody right after the judge handed down the sentence.

A jury found Simmons guilty ofpunching 70-year-old Grace Suozzi after the greeter asked Simmons to show her receipt. Surveillance video showed Suozzi being punched and landing on the ground. Simmons claimed the punch was actually an inadvertent motion of her arm.

Another camera view showed Simmonstrying to flee the area with another person, but being quickly surrounded by employees and patrons of the store.

Suozzi was hospitalized for fractures to the left side of her face.

Simmons was convicted under the state's "Granny Law," which gives stiffer penalties for an assault on someone 65 or older.

Simmons' attorney says they plan to appeal the sentence.
