Clearwater Beach, Florida - Police are asking Island Estate residents to be on the look-out for boat burglars.

"During the past several weeks, the Clearwater Police Department has seen an increase in burglaries to vessels docked in the Island Estates neighborhood," police states in a Watch Group Alert. "The subjects appear to be targeting navigation systems and other electronic items on the boats."

Police say they are increasing patrols in the area and are using the "Park, Walk and Talk" program to learn information on potential suspects.

Police ask residents to report any suspicious activity, including boats being operated at night that appear to be loitering on the waterway, by calling (727) 562-4242, or emailing officer Adam Jacques.
