Palm Bay, FL (Florida Today) --The alleged theft of a $1.29 convenience store pastry has landed a Palm Bay man in jail for days.
Theman is accused of stuffing the Iced Honey Bun down his sweatpants andleaving a 7-Eleven store at 6405 Minton Road. That was on Dec. 28.
Astore manager saw the theft and confronted the man, who fled on a blackbicycle. Palm Bay police in the area saw the suspect on Aladdin Street,and using a police dog they found and arrested the man in a wooded lotnext to 178 Battersea Ave. NE.
The suspect, identified bypolice as Brandon C. Phillips, 18, was wearing the same gray sweatpantsand his getaway bicycle was found between two houses nearby. A policereport says the store clerk identified the suspect as the pastrypilferer.
Phillips faces misdemeanor charges of retailpetit theft, resisting arrest without violence and resisting in therecovery of merchandise.
The Honey Bun was not found.
