The Eagles already were publicly rejected by one high-profile college coach. Now, CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora and the Philadelphia Inquirer report that Philadelphia will try it with another one of the hottest college coaches in the country.
That would be Notre Dame 's Brian Kelly -- who, La Canfora writes, the Eagles already have interviewed following the BCS title game. For now, Kelly is out of the country, but ESPN writes that the two sides plan to meet again when he returns.
Though he's coming off a shellacking in the BCS Championship Game to Alabama on Monday, Kelly has done wonders to turn the Fighting Irish into a nationally-relevant program again.
In the leadup to the national championship game, Kelly discussed the possibility of entertaining NFL coaching jobs.
"How can you not be [intrigued]?" Kelly said. "When you've coached football, you look at everything -- you look at high school film and you watch coaches there, college, Division III to Division I, it doesn't matter, college, NFL. All of that stuff intrigues me. I still think it comes down to time and place. What is the right time, and what is the right place? I never take any of that off the board."
Kelly has proclaimed Notre Dame as his dream job, but we've also seen that he doesn't mind moving around for better jobs. It would be interesting to see if he thinks a spot in the NFL would be better for him than Notre Dame's job.
