Town 'N' Country, Florida -- A standoff situation with a barricaded gunman appears to be over and the suspect has been taken into custody.
10 News reporter Melanie Michael was on scene when sheheard a loud "grenade sound" from inside the condo and six deputies rushed inside. A few minutes later the suspect was brought out on a stretcher and loaded into an ambulance.
Michael reports the suspect's "eyes were open, but he looked out of it."
Hillsborough Avenue was closed in both directions between Sussex and Memorial during the standoff, but traffic was allowed to start moving again at about 3 p.m.
The standoff began Friday morning at Tudor Cay Condominiums in the Town 'N' Country area.
Investigators say around 9:11 a.m., a deputy was serving an eviction notice to a man inside a condo when he reportedly answered the door with a gun. The deputy then sought refuge in another area within the condo behind a closed door.
Shortly before noon, the deputy was able to get out of the condo unharmed.
Other residents in nearby condos were evacuated.
Authorities say the man has had at least one other recent run-in with deputies, when he was taken into custody for a mental evaluation in November.
The suspect's name has not been released at this time.
