Tallahassee, Florida -- Two state lawmakers are taking action to try to make sure no woman has to go through what Naeisha Sanders experienced.

Naeisha says she was fired for being pregnant and as a single parent that was stressful. She didn't know if she'd be able to take care of her family.

The Tallahassee womansays losing her job in a nursing home for being pregnant was a shock, but she got through it.

"Stressful. Not knowing where my next meal was going to come from, but I do have a supportive family, I can say, and just by the grace of God."

Sen.Geraldine Thompson, D-Orlando,and Rep. Lori Berman, D-Lantana,are sponsoring legislation that would protect pregnant women from workplace discrimination. They say Florida needs a law to clarify that pregnancy is included under the Florida Civil Rights Act. Some courts have ruled it's not.

"Let's not allow employers to prevent women from doing their jobs and from returning to their jobs after child birth. Discrimination of any kind should not be tolerated and legally sanctioned by the state of Florida," said Rep. Lori Berman.

The bill would also allow pregnant women to sue for punitive and compensatory damages in discrimination cases.
