TAMPA, Florida -- Tampa police are investigating a triple shooting in Tampa. They say they responded to 2906East 22nd Avenuearound 9 p.m.after reports that shots had been fired along the dead end street.
Police saywhen they arrived they foundthree men had been hit. The trio hadbeen hanging out in front of one of the victim's homes when a group of suspects walked up and fired at them before running away. The suspectsgot intoa car parked nearby which took off.
26 year oldDexter Jermane Gardnerwas shot to death. His body was found in the courtyard of the duplex.41-year-old Thomas Causeiwas shot and his body was found nearby. Hewas rushed to the hospital where he is listed in serious condition.
26-year-oldBertran Sampson was also shot. He ran home. When police found him a few blocks away he was rushed to the hospital. His injuries areconsidered minor.
Detectives do not believe this is a random act of violence.
Early Wednesday morning police werestill searching for thesuspects. Tampa Police Spokeswoman, Laura McElroy,saysthey don'thave a motive in the crime yet.
Meanwhile DexterGardner'sfamily memberswere notified of his death at the scene. One woman passed out while another cried out in disbelief. Her friendstried to console her as shecollapsed into themiddle of theroadway which is right acrossthe street from Wilson Funeral home.
McElroy said detectives were busy interviewing witnesses to the crime andgathering forensic evidence.McElroy says, "We've had multiple 9-1-1 calls coming in with information - a lot of witnesses to interview-so this is a very active scene at this point. We know that we're looking for multiple suspects from what we've learned from the witnesses. But at this point we're still working to put together the description of those suspects."
