Tampa, Florida -- Another exit off of I-275 has shut down permanently, as the widening project for the highway continues in the Bay area.

Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) crews closed the Lois Avenue ramp off I-275 S, which is exit 40B. Earlier this month, the portion of the ramp to go south onto Lois had shut down. As of now, drivers cannot exit at all in any direction.

According to FDOT officials, an exit onto westbound Cypress Street, just east of Lois, will eventually replace the ramp.

"To bring that traffic onto Cypress will make it a whole lot better for people. They'll have more storage on the ramp and won't be fighting to get over a couple lanes if they're going west on Cypress Street," said John McShaffrey with FDOT.

Until then, drivers will have to follow the detour. You can get off at the next exit at Westshore Boulevard, then take Cypress to Lois.

This is not the first traffic change for drivers along I-275. In January, the southbound Dale Mabry exit closed for good. In November, the Howard and Armenia exit shifted from the right to the left.

The new Cypress Street exit is slated to be finished in 2014. The whole widening project is set for fall 2016.
