Sarasota, Florida -- In February 2013, Sarasota Police Department began an investigation into a "murder for hire." On February 25, suspect Janeene Jones thought she was hiring a "hit man" but it turned out to be an undercover police officer.
Detectives of the Strategic Narcotics Unit used an undercover police officer posing as a "hit man" to meet with Jones to discuss this murder, as well as future plans of another target.
In the meeting between Jones and the undercover cop, Jonesnamed the subject she wished to have murdered, and included the person's address, and their photo.
Sarasota Police say they are withholding the name of the potential victim.
Sources say the terms of the plan were discussed which included how the subject would be murdered, and the fact that the "Hit Man" would have to remove the body in order for less mess at the scene and less evidence to be found.
Money was exchanged with an additional agreement to have another subject murdered in the near future. Following the meeting, the suspect was arrested on scene.
Jones was charged with two counts of Solicitation to Commit Murder in the First Degree.
