Acapulco, MX (Sports Network) - Top-seeded and reigning Acapulco champion Sara Errani rolled to a first-round victory on Tuesday, while former French Open champion Francesca Schiavone survived a scare in her first-round match at the Mexican Open tennis event.

Errani, the 2012 French Open runner-up and last week's Dubai runner-up, needed just 1 hour, 25 minutes to dispose of Alexandra Cadantu of Romania 6-3, 6-2 on the red clay at the Fairmont Acapulco Princess.

Schiavone had a little more trouble in her first-round bout against American Grace Min, but the eighth-ranked Italian battled back from a second-set misstep to earn a 6-4, 4-6, 6-2 decision.

Second-seeded Carla Suarez Navarro of Spain cruised past Mathilde Johansson 6-1, 6-0, while third-seeded Alize Cornet had a bit tougher time in her first- round tilt, but was able to sneak past Columbian Catalina Castano for a 6-1, 2-6, 6-3 victory.

In other ranked action in Tuesday's first round, eighth-seeded Romina Oprandi of Switzerland slipped past American Alexa Glatch 6-4, 6-2, 7-5.

Spanish qualifier Maria Jose Martinez Sanchez cruised to a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Russian Alexandra Panova, while Stephanie Foretz Gacon of France battled back against American Julia Cohen to take a 7-5, 7-6 (7-5), 6-0 triumph.

Also on Tuesday, Spainaird Maria-Teresa Torro-Flor rolled past Pauline Parmentier of France 6-1, 6-4, while Torro-Flor's compatriot, Silvia Soler- Espinosa, held off Mandy Minella of Luxembourg 6-1, 7-6 (7-3) to advance to the second round.

The 2013 Acapulco champ will collect $40,000.
