St. Petersburg, Florida -- A St. Petersburg High School student and friend were arrested this morning after a school resource officer caught the two smoking marijuana in the school's athletic field concession stand.

St. Pete Police say the school resource officer found the boys in the stand after noticing evidence of a break-in. When the officer searched one of the boys, identified as 16-year-old Joshua Register, a loaded semiautomatic handgun was found inside his backpack.

Register was charged with possession of a firearm on school grounds, carrying a concealed firearm, armed commercial burglary, possession of marijuana and violation of probation.

Police say he has prior arrests for possession of marijuana with intent to sell, assault on a school board employee, battery on a law enforcement officer and possession of marijuana and burglary.

The other boy, identified as 17-year-old Marquelle Dryman, was charged with armed commercial burglary, possession of marijuana and trespass on school grounds.
