Sarasota, Florida -- A Sarasota man has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for tampering with witnesses in a child sex case back in 2011.
Sarasota Police say in June 2011, 43-year-old Gary Mays was arrested for allegedly giving a minor money, cigarettes and marijuana in exchange for sex at a hotel on N. Tamiami Trail.
During the investigation, two women came forward and said they were in the hotel room and that the alleged assault on the child never happened.
Police say the same two women recently recanted their statements and told investigators that Mays paid them to lie to authorities.
Mays was subsequently arrested and on Feb. 7, 2013, and convicted on two counts of Principle to Perjury and one count of Witness Tampering in an Unlawful Sex with Certain Minor case.
