St. Petersburg, Florida -- An off duty City of St. Petesburg officer was heading home in his personal vehicle when he reported that he was shot at on I275, near the south side fishing pier ramp.

The officer was still in uniform and wearing a windbreaker with "POLICE" clearly noticeable on his sleeves. He stated that an older model blue Honda pulled up beside him and that's when the shooting occurred.

The officer reported only hearing one shot and his driver side window shattered. He was able to radio his dispatch and they relayed the information to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office.

Responding units searched the area, but the suspect vehicle was not located. The officer was treated by EMS, and he sustained minor cuts to his face due to the shattering of the glass.
