Clearwater, Florida -- Anyone with children knows that keeping them in clothing, especially trendy, nice clothing is expensive. Not every family can afford it.
That's where Clothes to Kids comes in. The Pinellas County organization is making sure every child has a full wardrobe of clothing they can take pride in--and it doesn't cost their parents a thing!
Clothes to Kids has two shops, in Clearwater and St. Petersburg.
"It's almost like a high-end resale shop. I found a lot of brand name clothing here," said Michelle Szalwinski. She was shopping with her two children at the Clearwater location recently.
"I have a son who grows very quickly and goes through clothes really quickly and is very rough on his clothing as well."
This year, Clothes to Kids is celebrating its tenth anniversary. In the past decade, they've provided 80,000 wardrobes to students in grades kindergarten through 12th. That's not 80,000 pieces of clothing--but complete wardrobes!
"It's a pair of shoes, five new pairs of socks, four bottoms, five tops," said Clothes to Kids Development Director Jennifer Jacobs. "And girls get a dress."
Any child who qualifies for free and reduced-price lunches can come to one of Clothes to Kids' two stores twice a year and leave with a week's worth of clothes.
"When you see those kids leave with their bags brimming full of clothes," said Jacobs, "You know that they're going to leave and they're going to go back to school thinking about school not what they're wearing."
On Thursday, March 21, Clothes to Kids will celebrate its 10th anniversary at its True Colors Clothe a Kid Luncheon. Click here to learn how you can become a sponsor.
