Dade City, Florida --No need to go to Pamplona, Spain for the running of the bulls as a North Carolina-based company is bringing a similar event to Dade City.

The Great Bull Run, as it's called will be held at the Little Everglades Ranch next February and just like the annual event in Spain, organizers say runners should beware.

In fact, Rob Dickens the Chief Operating Officer with Rugged Maniac, the company putting on The Great Bull Run says danger is part of the draw.

"Again, if it was a completely safe thing to do like walking down the sidewalk there would be no thrill in it at all and people wouldn't really want to do it," Dickens said.

Participants will have to sign waivers and the cost to sign up for the event now stands at $40 per person. But the price will increase as the event draws closer.

The website for The Great Bull Run says 15 people have died while running with the bulls in Spain and during a telephone interview with 10 News on Friday Dickens admitted an event like this is inherently dangerous.

"You're always worried about things going wrong and that's part of the planning process. You identify the risks and you try and minimize those to the extent that you can."

Dickens notes the course will essentially be a straight chute with room for runners to slide out if needed. The course will be a quarter-mile-long with bulls released in two groups of six each. No more than 1,000 people will be allowed on the course at a time.

Dade City is one of nine cities in the U.S. where The Great Bull Run will be held.

But not everyone is so excited about seeing an event like this coming to the U.S. People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals is already calling on the public to boycott the run saying it's both dangerous to humans and cruel to the animals.

"Humans have a choice as to whether they want to place themselves in harms way, I mean those animals don't," said PETA's Gemma Vaughan.
