Bucharest, Romania (Sports Network) - Lukas Rosol will vie for his first career singles title after an impressive performance on Saturday in the semifinals at the $535,000 Nastase Tiriac Trophy tennis event.
The Czech handled three-time Bucharest champion Gilles Simon 6-2, 6-3 on the clay at BNR Arenas. the second-seeded Simon beat Italian Fabio Fognini in last year's finale, adding to his titles in 2007 and 2008. The Frenchman had won 16 consecutive matches at this tournament.
Making his maiden appearance in a singles final, Rosol, 27, will face Guillermo Garcia-Lopez.
The Spaniard battled past fifth-seeded German Florian Mayer 6-4, 4-6, 6-3. Mayer was the 2011 Bucharest champ.
The 29-year-old Garcia-Lopez will be appearing his fourth career final and first since 2010. He captured titles in Kitzbuhel in 2009 and in Bangkok three years ago.
Sunday's match will be the first meeting between Rosol and Garcia-Lopez.
This week's champion will collect $96,000.
