Pensacola, Florida (PNJ) -- A woman wanted for questioning in the homicide of Harvey Ray Smith,found dead in his car trunk Saturday, has turned herself in, authoritiessaid.
Lauren Dianne Rockwell, 25, who wasbeing sought as a person of interest, turned herself in Monday afternoon,according to the Escambia County Sheriff's Office. She is currentlybeing questioned by investigators in the case.
Smith,43, was found in the trunk of his car, after being stabbed to death inan alleged robbery attempt, according to an Escambia County Sheriff'sOffice report.
Smith's body was discovered in the 1995 black Mercedes behind Motel 6 at 7827 N. Davis Highway Saturday morning.
Hehad been reported missing to the Santa Rosa Sheriff's Office on Friday.But family members spotted his vehicle at the motel and made thegruesome discovery around 7:30 a.m. Saturday, according to the Sheriff'sOffice.
Debra Leann Burge, 22, of the 3900 block ofHighway 97, has been charged in his death, and Zachary Vance Greer, 22,of the 3200 block of McMillan Creek Drive is wanted on murder androbbery charges.
Greer remains at large and is believed to be traveling in a 2005 Ford Focus in Santa Rosa County, the Sheriff's Office said.
Accordingto an arrest report, Burge admitted to conspiring with Greer to robSmith on Friday. Before carrying out the robbery, Burge called andtexted Smith in order to lure him to her residence where Greer plannedto rob him, she told investigators. Burge and Smith knew each otherthrough mutual acquaintances, according Assistant State Attorney JohnMolchan.
Burge told investigators that Smith arrived atresidence and gave her and Greer a ride to the store. Upon their returnto Burge's residence, Burge said she went inside and the two men stayedoutside. When she came back outside, she found Smith laying on theground bleeding, according to the report. Greer had informed her that hehad killed Smith. He washed the blood off the Mercedes and placedSmith's body in the trunk, the report states.
Meanwhile,Burge gathered up her two children and some of Smith's items including acell phone, laptop computer, and iPod Nano, she told investigators.
Theytook off in Smith's vehicle, at which point, Burge threw Smith's cellphone, laptop and other items out the window, the report states. Theyleft the Mercedes in the Motel 6 parking lot, where they spent the nightand left the next morning.
During the investigation,officers determined that Smith's wallet, cell phone, laptop, iPod Nanoand an undetermined amount of cash believed to be about $700 weremissing from his vehicle, the report states.
Burge is charged with murder while engaged in a felony offense and robbery with a deadly weapon.
Her two children are currently in the care of other family members, according to Molchan.
Deputies are still seeking Greer on an open count of murder and robbery.
