Brandon, Florida -- The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office says a suspect shot by a deputy has died from his injuries.

It happened at 904 West Wheeler Road in Brandon. Sheriff David Gee says the suspect -- who has not been publicly identified -- was being taken into custody by Deputy Jack Thompson, when he allegedly grabbed for the deputy's gun.

After a struggle, the man managed to pull the gun away, which was still in its holster. Gee says the suspect began pulling the gun from the holster when he was shot by another deputy, Manny Gonzalez.

The suspect was taken to Tampa General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Neither deputy Thompson nor Gonzalez was hurt.

Sheriff Gee says the man is a career, multi-state criminal whose previous charges include murder and robbery.

10 News has learned Jack Thompson is the same deputy investigated by reporter Mike Deeson in 2005, when Thompson was involved in a controversial neighborhood dispute.

10 News will have more on this developing story.
