OnThe Viewtoday, she delivered a message from the actor, who seemed to indicate in a Sunday interview withThe Guardianthat oral sex had caused his 2010 throat cancer. His rep sent out a statement saying that Douglas never said that's what "caused" his cancer.
On Tuesday, reportedAccess Hollywood, Douglas told a crowd at an event in New York, "I do not know what caused my cancer. If I did I'd have a Nobel Prize."
And now on Wednesday, Walters said, "The feeling was that perhaps he was blaming his wife for giving him the HPV virus."
She mentioned that she, Michael and Catherine "are very close friends." And, she said, "Michael would like everyone to know that his wife, Catherine, is healthy. She does not have the HPV virus. He doesn't know how he got cancer. ... He does not want anyone to think it was from Catherine.... he is happy it is raising awareness about HPV."
When pressed byViewco-host Sherri Shepherd about his initial quotes, Walters added, "He is not saying that he doesn't have it. ... What is he saying is that it didn't come from Catherine."
