TAMPA, Florida - A 4-month-old baby boy is back with his mother after his father allegedly kidnapped him. Tampa police have arrested Jorge Torres. He faces a number of charges, including burglary and aggravated battery.
Police said it started late Thursday night when Torres pushed his way inside the apartment of his ex-girlfriend, Jainese Cruz. She lives at Courtney Cove apartments, along North Himes Avenue. According to police, Torres was armed with a knife.
Police said Torres demanded Cruz give him their child, a four month old baby boy. Cruz's new boyfriend, Alexander Santiago, tried to intervene and that's when police said Torres stabbed him in the back. According to authorities, he then snatched his son and took off.
Cruz's family members were able to give police several addresses where he could be. About an hour later, police did find Torres and his baby, at a home along Sherrill Street.
We're told Cruz's family members arrived around the same time police did and ran over to Torres and started hitting him.
The baby was returned to Cruz.
Santiago was taken to St. Joseph's Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. As for Torres, he is expected to make his first appearance in court Saturday.
