Norman, OK (Sports Network) - Doris Chen and Lauren Diaz-Yi won both of their matches on Friday and will battle for the title at the U.S. Women's Amateur Public Links Championship on Saturday.
Chen, who was co-medalist this week, needed 19 holes to oust Anne-Catherine Tanguay in the quarterfinals before rolling to a 5 & 4 victory of Julie Yang in the semifinals.
Diaz-Yi bested Krystal Quihuis in the quarters and Raychelle Santos in the semifinals by the same 4 & 3 margin.
Chen, the 2010 U.S. Girls' Junior champ, birdied the 18th hole in her first match to force extra holes, then won the match with a par on the first extra hole at Jimmie Austin OU Golf Club.
She carried the momentum into her semifinal match as she won the first three holes with two pars and a birdie. Chen birdied the fifth and parred the sixth to extend her advantage to 5-up.
Yang took the seventh with a par, but Chen birdied the 10th to again go 5-up. Chen also birdied No. 11 to move 6-up. Yang won the 12th with a par, but the match was over two holes later after the pair matched pars at 13 and 14.
Diaz-Yi led her quarterfinal match 3-up at the turn and cruised to the win after dropping just one hole in the match against Quihuis.
In the semis, Diaz-Yi won the second with a par and made bogey at the third, but that was enough to win the hole. Santos birdied the fourth to get within 1-down, but Diaz-Yi won four straight holes, all with pars, from the sixth to grab a commanding 5-up lead.
Santos claimed the 12th and 13th to inch within 3-down, but she bogeyed the 15th to lost the match.
The 36-hole final is slated for Saturday.
