A Sydney surfer had a lucky escape after he was knocked unconscious by a whale frolicking off Bondi Beach, Australia on Sunday.

The huge southern right whale swam right up to a group of surfers, and its tail knocked two of them from their boards.

One surfer had a feeling he was in trouble when he saw the whale.

"If he flips his tail, I'm probably gonna get hit," he says. "But it was so quick, and that was it."

The whale was actually a female and was seen swimming with her calf about 400 feet off the beach.

The surfer ended up with just a sore shoulder and a headache.
