Plant City, Florida-- A Plant City man at the center of a multi-jurisdictional investigation was arrested Tuesday for three counts of lewd and lascivious battery after allegedly engaging in sexual acts with a minor.
A joint-investigation by local FDLE agents and St. Petersburg Police detectives lead officials to believe 25-year-old Joseph Gerald Mendolia engaged in sexual activity with a minor in St. Pete at least once in March of this year.
Investigators say during an online chat, Mendolia posed as a female named "Amanda," and claimed to be a "camp counselor" with the University of South Florida music program.
He is currently the director of the Plant City Community Chorus.
Mendolia was arrested in Plant City and booked into the Pinellas County Jail.
Investigators believe other victims may be identified at a later date and their investigation continues.
They encourage anyone who has children, or knows of other children who have been in contact with Mendolia, to callFDLE Special Agent Al Danna at (813) 878-7384 or St. Petersburg Police Detective Kenny Sharp at (727) 893-4297.
