Tampa, Florida-- The search is on for a man who stole an elderly woman's wallet after aggressively insisting on carrying her groceries Tuesday morning.

According to Tampa Police, 75-year-old Barbara Felder was leaving a Marathon convenience store in the East Lake-Orient Park area when the suspect walked up to her and offered to help with her grocery bags.

Felder, who is elderly and disabled, turned down his offer and continued walking, but the suspect reportedly refused to take no for an answer.

According to officials, Felder had to use her cane to try and fight the man off after he tried to grab the grocery bags from her hands, and even that didn't stop him. He eventually pulled out a knife, grabbed her bags, took her wallet from inside one of them and then rode away on a black bike.

The money inside was all she had left to cover food and rent at a local motel.

In addition to finding social service assistance for Felder, officers say they're trying to track the unknown suspect. His description is as follows:

  • Black male
  • Between 25 and 40 years old
  • 5'11-6'1"
  • Medium afro with a receding hair lineand a goatee
  • Wearing a green basketball jersey with "State" and #5 written on the front, blue jeans rolled to a cuff at bottom, black sneakers, and a black baseball cap with a white logo on front
